Magnolia Sewing Circle

--Julia posts--
I love to go to Sewing Circle to help with the projects and visit with the other ladies. We started this "String Quilt"e17
over a year ago at our annual "Guest Day Sewing."e19
Now after many months it's finally finished.e18
Last Tuesday we also bound the comforters that had been knotted at our "Annual Comfort Knotting" back in March.e15
Till the end of the day, the finished stack was so high it fell over.e13
We also had faithful quilters, Elmina, Louise, & Paul's mom, Silva.e16
Others tied more comforters, Evie & Sherlyn.e14

Cactus Rose

This is my latest invention called "Cactus Rose".  The center of the wall quilt is paper pieced.  Notice the shinny fabric in the dark green and the dark red, this give the quilt some dimension and sparkle.

Spring Pinwheels

--Julia Posts --
This was a fast and fun little quilt to make.

I got the idea from Jackie's tutorial. First you piece together blocks to make a top and add a border to it.
c25
Then make a template of a small square with the off centered X in it. You have to be sure that when laying the X on the lines that you don't cut into the next block.
c24
After I've cut out the blocks with the template the first quilt looks like Swiss cheese.  If you are really thrifty you may want to cut smaller blocks from what's left to use in the border.
c23
Keeping the small squares in order sew them together to make a smaller quilt with pinwheels.
c26
Add some borders, quilt it, and bind it, and ta-dah! I've made Spring Pinwheels in a simple fast way!

Scappy Quilt

This is Nancy who took my Scrappy Baskets class.  She through me for a loop in class.  She wanted to use her green and pink scraps in her stash. I was fine with this idea but then she suggested a navy background....  I wasn't to sure about that, but the more we talked about it and laid out her fabrics and chatted, the idea started to come alive and the sparkle began to grow.  The quilt turned out lovely and is very striking.  The flash on the camera changed the brightness of the fabrics.
